Lana Haga

Born 1986 in Leningrad, Soviet Union
Lives and works in Vaasa, Finland

Working across sculpture, installation, relief, and sound, Lana Haga transforms discarded plastics, textiles, and found objects into forms that hover between the organic and the manufactured. Industrial remnants swell into bodily masses, synthetic surfaces resemble living matter, and familiar objects become difficult to place. Through these shifts in material identity, her work reflects on the systems of production, consumption, and value that shape contemporary life.

Repetition lies at the centre of Haga’s practice. Knotting, layering, felting, compressing, melting, and accumulating become slow, meditative acts through which materials gradually depart from their original function. Rather than imposing predetermined forms, she works in dialogue with the behaviour of her materials, allowing their physical properties and histories to guide the process. The resulting forms suggest adaptation as an ongoing condition of survival—transformation that remains incomplete, unresolved, and continuously unfolding. Existing between synthetic and biological states, the works speculate on how matter persists, mutates, and acquires new meaning within an ever-changing world.

Her work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, United Kingdom; MUU Contemporary Art Centre and Galleria Heino, Helsinki, Finland; and the Ostrobothnian Museum and Vaasa City Art Gallery, Vaasa, Finland. Her work is held in national and international private collections, including the Heino Art Foundation Collection, Helsinki.

Haga is represented by Galleria Heino, Helsinki
